Why today
ChatGPT now serves ads on its free tiers, which means it is a commercial surface where people compare providers before they ever reach your website. Whatever it says about your business is what those people see, and most operators have never once checked what that is.
What you will do
Find out what the major AI assistants tell a potential customer about your business, and correct the worst error you find.
- 01 Open ChatGPT in a private browsing window so you are logged out. You want the free experience a customer gets, not the answers your paid account has been trained by.
- 02 Ask three questions in the wording a customer would use: what does [your business name] in [your city] do, who are the best [your category] in [your city], and is [your business name] any good.
- 03 Write down every factual error. Wrong services, wrong city, wrong hours, a competitor named where you should be, or nothing at all. Silence is the most common answer and the most expensive one.
- 04 Ask the same three questions of Google's AI answers and one other assistant you use. Where they agree, that is what the internet currently believes about you.
- 05 Trace each error to its source. It is almost always your own about page, your Google Business Profile, or an old directory listing you forgot existed. Correct the one that is most wrong.
- 06 Paste all the answers into one document with today's date. That is your baseline, and it is the only way you will know in a month whether the fix worked.
How you will know it worked
You have today's answers saved in a dated document, you have identified at least one factual error and the specific page or listing that caused it, and you have corrected that page.
